KARACHI: Security beefed up for Eid

Published November 24, 2003

KARACHI, Nov 23: The Sindh government has made effective security arrangements to prevent any act of terrorism by the recently banned religious parties during the last days of Ramazan or Eid-ul-Fitr.

This was stated by the adviser to chief minister on home affairs, Aftab Sheikh, during an informal chat with journalists after distributing Eid gifts among women and juvenile prisoners in Central Jail-II on Sunday.

He said that special check posts had been established in all cities and towns of the province while police patrolling had also been increased. He said that close circuit cameras had been installed at important thoroughfares, bazaars, shopping centres and entry and exit points of the cities to keep an eye on criminal activities.

Mr Sheikh said that effective arrangements had been made for security of mosques, seminaries, Imambargahs and other worship places.

He said that the implementation of jail manual would be ensured.

To a query, he said that the provincial government was stable and all parties in the coalition were striving for the welfare of the masses. —PPI
