MITHI: Kaloi has emerged as the seventh tehsil of Thar district with the issuance of a notification by the Sindh government on Monday.

The new tehsil comprises UCs and dehs of Diplo and Mithi talukas.

During his visit to Mithi a couple of weeks ago, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had promised to the people of Tharparkar that Kaloi would be granted the status of tehsil soon.

On Monday, Tharparkar District Commissioner Dr Shahzad Tahir Thaheem told Dawn that he had received the notification.

He said the demarcation work to define the limits of the new tehsil had been started.
