VANCOUVER (British Columbia), Nov 21: China’s Shang Shichun set three world records in the women’s 75-kilogram division at the World Weightlifting Championships on Thursday.
The 24-year-old Shang broke records in the snatch, clean and jerk and total weight, all set last year by countrywoman Sun Ruiping.
Shang lifted 120 kilograms (264 pounds) to eclipse the snatch record of 260.7 pounds, and her clean and jerk of 153 kilograms (336.6 pounds) surpassed the previous mark of 152.5 kilograms (335.5 pounds).
Her total weight of 272.5 kilograms (599.5 pounds) easily beat Sun’s mark of 270 kilograms (594 pounds).
Egypt’s Nahla Ramadan finished second. She set a world junior record in the 117.5-kilogram (258.5-pound) snatch and beating the previous record of 116.5 kilograms (256.3 pounds).
Bulgaria’s Slaveyka Ruzhinska finished third.
In the men’s competition, Bulgaria’s Milen Dobrev won the 94-kilogram (206.8-pound) class. Turkey’s Hakan Yilmaz was second, and Moldova’s Vadim Vacarciuc was third.—AP
