ISLAMABAD: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed his "best wishes" to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who will undergo an open-heart surgery in London on Tuesday.
In a tweet posted on Saturday, Modi wished for the premier's "speedy recovery and good health".
The Indian premier tagged Maryam Nawaz, daughter of the prime minister, in his Twitter post.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is currently in London for medical check-up, will undergo open-heart surgery on Tuesday.
An influx of support and well wishes have been pouring out on the internet for the premier from notable personalities including Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.
A spokesman for the prime minister said the premier was likely to remain hospitalised for at least one week, adding that he would return home only after doctors’ permission.
The premier would be administered medicines for three days to be followed by the surgery.
In the prime minister's absence, all affairs of the state would continue as per the law of the land, said the spokesman, adding that Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar would be responsible for managing the routine matters of the government.
The premier's heart condition dates back to 2008.
His visit to London was his second this year. He was also in the British capital in April when he also received medical attention at the Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea.
The prime minister's daughter, Maryam Nawaz, also confirmed through Twitter that her father will undergo an open-heart surgery on Tuesday. She appealed to the citizens to pray for her father's health and recovery.

I wish, I can wish him the best but our leaders make me sick to the stomach. These so called nobilities make mockery of common Pakistanis. People are dying left and right from common disease. Government hospitals are mess with infrastructure is breaking down but to these nobles they can go where ever they want and pay what ever it takes to get fixed. Anyway with sad hart I still make duaah for him that he recovers and work for the betterment of Pakistan. How many chance he and the other leaders of Pakistan need to help the fellow countryman.

@james When you are the PM of a poor nation where the poor die in hospitals every single day from bad hygiene, lack of staff and medication etc then it is no longer a personal choice or matter of personal resources. It is about standing shoulder to shoulder with the people who vote for you. That should be quite simple to understand. Democracy is govt of the 'people', for the 'people' and 'by the 'people'. Are the 'people' who rule over us Pakitanis from the 'people'? No. They are a class apart, indeed an entire Universe apart from the rest of us.

How can he run the country in such poor health. Should he not resign and let a young dynamic person run the country. A 'Leader' has no right to put himself at a personal advantage over and above what the common citizen has to endure. How else will they empathise with those who are less fortunate? This is what is wrong with Pakistan. It makes my blood boil. While King Shareef is enjoying a five star stay at the Cromwell Hospital his countrymen, those who voted for him, those he swore to serve and protect will be dying along with their kids in run-down, cockroach infested Govt 'hospitals' in Pakistan.

Why do all the influential individuals, from all fields in Pakistan, including the PM, find a need to travel abroad to get treatment? Isn't there any competent Doctor in Pakistan that could treat them? One would think that there would be many experienced Doctors in Cardiovascular Diseases in the country, especially in Punjab. The province after all has one of highest Cardiovascular disease diagnoses in the world and those patients do get treated........this is a very bad example by the leader of the Nation to go West for treatment. What kind of a message is he giving, to the majority of the citizens who rely on Govt. for their health care needs? He is in fact telling them tough luck if you cant afford it, while I use taxpayer resources to get well.

And would just drive down the road with his son and wife to get admitted .. The doc would not charge a single penny leas than he charges normally as there would be no reason to demonstrate anything superficial . We are one people in two different nations .. What would be that time !!

I wish the PM of Pakistan speedy recovery and good health.
On the same note, I would like to point out the importance of good education. More that 20% of the top specialists and surgeons in the west and in North America are of Indian origin.
People from advanced western countries too are now flocking to Indian cities like Chennai (Madras) which have become world class hubs for medical treatment at a much lower cost.
Pakistani leaders and officials should focus on improving its medical facilities and educating more Doctors.

Sir, FYI I am not promoting India. I was just stating the importance of a good education and its impact on the population. I have been a Canadian citizen of Indian origin for over 25 years. In Canada we have one of the world's best medical systems and every Canadian citizen including me gets it for free.

@shaffiq qureshi Thank you mate. Just to be clear, Im not hating on Modi or Indians. Politics is like a chess game. You always ry to guess the others move and strategize. It has to be said whether you like him or not, Modi is a hard worker and brings energy. Is he the smartest and an intellectual? Not at all. But for the most part he is honest, hard working and leads from the front. In that sense there is some similarity between IK and him except IK would be more of an intellectual. However will IK get a chance and will IK have the right policies? I can assure PK that you will have a revolutionary turn around IF you have the right leaders. For the last 25 years you have had poor leaders with the exception of maybe Musharraf. He fought corruption but at the end corruption defeated him

Open heart surgeries called "CABG" are not very complicated and are done in every cities( even in big towns) in India. Why would the Pak PM go all the way to London for his bypass surgery ?? If it was like 15 yrs back then it's ok, but totally unacceptable these days. He should have had faith in Pakistani surgeons and medical system and happy got treated within the country. Anyways best wishes for his speedy recovery.
