KARACHI, Nov 20: Asif Mujtaba missed century by eight runs but piloted PIA to a healthy total against Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in their last Patron’s Trophy match at National Stadium on Thursday.

Inserted to bat first, PIA recovered from 140 for four to post 312 for nine wickets in 83 overs of the first innings at the draw of stumps on opening day of the three-day match.

Airlines consolidated their position through a solid 152 runs fifth stand involving Asif Mujtaba and Mahmood Hamid.

Asif cracked 13 boundaries before being stumped by Fayyaz Ali Shah for 92 as he came out of the crease to hit spinner Waseem Naeem. He batted for three hours nd faced 137 deliveries.

Mahmood made a valuable 53 in 153 minutes and laced with six hits to the boundary.

Left arm paceman Nasir Khan was the pick of DHA attack with five wickets for 133 runs in 20 overs. Off-spinner Waseem Naeem chipped in with three for 42 in 14 overs.

DHA wicket-keeper Fayyaz Ali Shah was in fine form behind the stumps. He was involved in five dismissals, three catches and two stumpings.

At UBL Sports Complex Ground left handed Rahan Rafiq blasted a splendid hundred to power Dewan Farooqi Motors Ltd (DFML) to 320 all out 79.2 overs in their first innings.

When stumps were drawn for the day DFML replied with 13 without loss. Muhammad Waheed was 12 not out.

Rehan hit 13 boundaries and a six in his 107 and was last out caught by Yaqoob at long-on trying to lift spinner Muhammad Waheed out of the ground. Opener Agha Sabir slammed eight boundaries in his 44.

Tail-ender Aamir Yousuf made an unbeaten 21 with three boundaries and added an 70 runs for the tenth wicket.

Zeeshan saves Pak PWD

Zeeshan Pervaiz’s defiant unbeaten 146-ball 107 rescued Pak PWD from total collapse against KESC at UBL Ground on Thursday.

Due to Zeeshan’s heroics Pak PWD managed 218 in their first innings and match was interestingly poised as KESC finished the day 53 for two. Arif Mahmood was KESC’s best bowler taking four wickets for 64 from 22 overs.
