ISLAMABAD, Nov 20: The government will soon introduce a bill in parliament to check corporal punishment and physical harassment in schools.

“The law when enacted would be implemented in letter and spirit,” said Education Minister Zobaida Jalal while talking to a delegation of a parents-teachers association in her office on Thursday.

The minister also directed her personal staff to set up a relief and complaint cell in her office immediately, where cases of corporal punishment could be reported.

The minister said strict disciplinary action would be taken against a teacher who was found involved in physically torturing any student. She asked the teachers’ community to adopt a student-friendly attitude.

Ms Jalal said the government had been successful in bringing the dropout rate to a manageable point due to its target-oriented policies. “Therefore, no one would be allowed to scare the students in schools, how much resourceful he may be.”
