KHAIRPUR, Nov 19: The Sindh Local Government Commission has restored Shafi Mohammad Chandio as Nazim Union Council Faqirabad and subsequently as acting district Naib Nazim, Khairpur, till the final decision by the Election Commission.

Through a letter, the Sindh Local Government Commission has directed the district Nazim, Nafisa Shah, to ensure that Shafi Mohammad Chandio holds his office as Nazim Union Council Faqirabad to which he was legally elected and also to hold the office of convener/officiating district Naib Nazim, Khairpur, till the matter is decided by the Election Commission.

The district Nazim, Nafisa Shah, showed this letter addressed to her to the newsmen on Wednesday saying she will act accordingly.

The letter said that Shafi Mohammad Chandio has submitted a letter saying that he has not resigned from the office of Nazim Union Council Faqirabad; hence, he holds this office legally.

The letter further said that a report from the district Nazim, Khairpur, also supported the submission of Chandio.

Earlier, the district Nazim, Khairpur, Syed Nafisa Shah, had threatened to resign from the post of Nazim along with all the Nazims of the Awam Dost Panel.

She said this while speaking to newsmen earlier on Wednesday.

She said that the ADP Nazims had been harassed for a long time, and added that the district government was being harassed by creating hurdles in their path and it was not being allowed to work freely.

She said that police and irrigation department authorities were directly interfering in the affairs of the district government.

The district Nazim said that the Nazim members of the ADP were being imposed through the police to stop supporting the ADP, and added that the ADP members were being involved in fake cases.

Talking about the participation of an ADP member in the session of the district council held on Tuesday, she said that only one member attended the session because he was implicated in water theft cases so as to put pressure on him.

She threatened to go ahead with the resignations if such practices continued in future and justice was not provided to them.
