QUETTA, Nov 19: Afghan refugees living in parts of Balochistan have elected their four representatives for Loya Jirga to be held in Kabul to endorse new Afghan constitution.

The election in this regard was held in Afghan consulate, Quetta, in two phases.

In the first phase, refugees living in Quetta, Panjpai, Girdi Jungle and Chaghai elected two members on Oct 16, 2003. They include Haji Wali Mohammad and Haji Mohammad Rasool.

In the second phase held on Tuesday (Oct 18, 2003), displaced people living in Loralai, Chaman, Saranan, Surkhab, Jungle Pir Ali, Kuchlak and Balili elected Amanullah Khan and Haji Khair Mohammad Ishaqzai.

A large number of Afghans living in various refugee camps gathered in the consulate and cast their votes.

Haji Imdadullah Aziz supervised the election process as he was appointed the election officer by Afghan government. The polling, which began at around 2pm, continued for more than five hours.

The Kabul election representatives later counted the votes and announced the result of the election late in the evening.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Imdadullah Aziz said Afghan government had not ignored the refugees living in different areas of Sindh and Balochistan and given them rights to choose their representatives.
