KARACHI, Nov 19: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has sought particulars of prisoners languishing in jails without trial, so that measures can be taken for their relief.
Presiding over a meeting at the Governor’s House to review the situation in this regard, the governor observed that a large number of prisoners had not been presented before the court to face charges against them; many had been living in jail for a period longer than they might have been after conviction and many were still in jail after completing their terms.
Those who attended the meeting included Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Home Affairs, Aftab Ahmed Shaikh, Advocate General Sindh Anwar Mansoor Khan, Additional Advocate General Qazi Khalid Ali, Home Secretary Anwar Haider, Law Secretary Ghulam Nabi Shah and other officials concerned.
The governor expressed satisfaction over the improvement in law and order in the province during Ramazan, and directed the police and other law enforcement agencies to increase vigilance around shopping areas as Eid was approaching fast and the rush in markets would increase rapidly.—APP
