RAWALPINDI, Nov 18: The police on Tuesday arrested two persons in Taxila and seized a huge quantity of weapons which they claimed were to be used for subversive activities.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Rawalpindi police, Israr Ahmed briefed the press on the arrests and seizure of arms.
Accepting the flaws in policing, the DIG said the Station House Officer, Wah Cantonment, and a checkpost in charge had been suspended immediately after the police raid. Active policing is required now, he added.
Claiming that the accused, Aurangzaib alias Rango, belonged to a religious outfit and had been planning sectarian killings, the DIG said a huge quantity of weapons including two grenades, two SMG rifles, one 12-bore double barrel rifle, two pump action guns and one 8mm rifle, had been seized. Besides the arms, an amount of Rs273,800, a television set and wrist watches were also seized by the police during the raid. The DIG said the arrested accused would be tried in the anti- terrorist court.
District Police Officer, Rawalpindi, Syed Moravat Ali Shah told mediapersons that the accused, Aurangzaib alias Rango and Zafar Abbas resident of Lodhran district, were arrested by the police, while two of their accomplices managed to escape from the scene.
