ISLAMABAD, Nov 18: MNA Maimoona Hashmi, in an application submitted with the court of judicial magistrate, sought ‘A’ class facilities for her father Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, who was sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand on November 14.

Relating the circumstances of the arrest of ARD president on October 29, the application states that relatives and lawyers of Mr Hashmi were not allowed to meet him, while he was kept at unknown locations and was subjected to torture. It was on November 14 that the magistrate allowed his meeting with relatives and three counsels, but the jail authorities allowed only the daughters to meet him on November 15.

The applicant has drawn the court’s attention towards the political career of Mr Hashmi during which he was elected five times, and held the office of a federal minister three times. It also pointed out that Mr Hashmi had faced arrests and imprisonment 28 times for political reasons, and was always given ‘A’ class in jails due to his political stature and high educational qualifications.
