OKARA: A-Division Police on Thursday registered a case against 81 lawyers, including a nominated one, for allegedly manhandling a sub-divisional officer (SDO) of the Lahore Electric Supply Company.

According to FIR 401/16, SDOs Umar Mumtaz and Habib Iqbal were present at Model sub-division on Wednesday afternoon when lawyer Chaudhry Ihsan along with his colleagues came to the office. Ihsan asked Umar as to why his residential meter was removed?

When the SDO told him that the meter was tampered with, the lawyers manhandled him and ransacked office furniture.

On the complaint of SDO Umar, police registered a case against Ihsan and his 80 unidentified colleagues under Section 462J of the Electricity Act, and sections 342, 427, 186 and 506 of PPC.

On Thursday, Lesco staffers took out a protest rally, demanding arrest of the lawyers who manhandled the SDO.
