Zhang retains crown

VANCOUVER, Nov 17: Defending world champion Guozheng Zhang of China retained his title on Sunday, winning the gold medal in the 69-kilogram class at the world weightlifting championships.

Vladislav Lukanin of Russia won the silver and set junior world records with his final lift of 192.5 kilograms and total weight of 340 kilograms. The previous records were held by Rudik Petrosyan of Armenia.

Bae-Young Lee of Korea, was a surprise bronze medalist. He’s 24 and his best previous international success was seventh at the 2000 Olympics.—AFP
