TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 17: A group of land grabbers who has the backing of an influential person of the area finally grabbed the land allotted to the Government Islamia Secondary School 10 years ago.

The provincial government had allotted a piece of land to the school which had about 2,000 students. But a councillor and his accomplices occupied the land. When a former headmaster moved the court against the land grabbers, he was transferred on the pursuance of “influentials”.

They not only forced the new headmaster to stop pursuing the case, but also invited MNA Mian Farhan Latif for the inauguration of gas supply to the Ghaffari Colony illegally built on the occupied land. He also announced Rs200,000 for the provision of other facilities for the colony.

Public circles have urged the provincial government to vacate the land and hand over its possession to the school.

RAMAZAN BAZAARS: People from different walks of life criticized the government for failing to check prices and quality of commodities being sold at Ramazan bazaars.

District Bar Association former president Mian Shahid Iqbal, PML-N general secretary Advocate Rana Anwar, Jamaat-i-Islami leader and union council Nazim Advocate Mian Shoaib, Anjuman Tajran former general secretary Rana Khalid Mahmood and Millat Party city organizer Haji Tauqeer Abdullah Bhatti in separate press statements on Monday claimed that prices of commodities were even higher than that of open market.

They said substandard items were available in these bazaars while the meat and beef being sold there was also of poor quality.

They urged the chief minister to send a team to check the prices in the Ramazan bazaar along with their quality.

Meanwhile, the DCO fixed the ex-mill rate of a 20-kilogram flour bag at Rs195, while its open market was Rs201, said a press release.
