WANA (South Waziristan), Nov 17: Four prisoners who had escaped from the local lock-up were handed over to the political authorities on Monday.

Some 11 prisoners had overpowered the prison staff and fled when they were being given food for Sehri two weeks ago.

Four prisoners had already been surrendered by their respective tribes.

Those who were handed over to Wana assistant political agent Rehmatullah Wazir on Monday were identified as Qamar Zaman, Habibullah, Noorgai and Abdul Ghafoor.

Six prisoners who have surrendered belong to Ahmadzai clan of the Wazir tribe while two others are Afghan nationals.

Three prisoners who are still at large belong to the Mahsud tribe.

After the escape of prisoners, the political administration launched a crackdown against the respective tribes.

During the operation, the administration arrested 35 tribesmen and sealed 150 shops to force the tribes to hand over the prisoners to the administration.

The political administration released all detained tribesmen after the surrender of eight prisoners.

The administration was holding talks with the elders of Mahsud tribe to hand over three prisoners.
