RAWALPINDI, Nov 16: A minor girl and a motorcyclist were run over by a truck and killed on Islamabad Highway on Sunday, police said.
According to the police, three-year-old Afreen was crossing the road when a motorcyclist Zahid, who was heading towards Sihala, approached her. Zahid swerved to save the girl and was hit by a truck (FD-3301) coming behind. As a result, both the girl and the motorcyclist were critically injured. They were shifted to the Pims where they expired. The truck driver was arrested and vehicle impounded.
Earlier, on Saturday night a Suzuki driver was killed after crashing his vehicle into a truck at toll plaza, Mandra.
Police said a Suzuki driven by Jamal Ahmed crashed into a truck going ahead of it and was critically injured. He was shifted to the hospital where he died.
Meanwhile, two robbers entered a house in Khyaban-i-Sir Syed and robbed gold jewellry valuing Rs 250,000 and electronic goods after taking the inmates at gunpoint.
Abdul Rauf lodged an FIR with the Pirwadhai police stating that two unidentified robbers entered his house in his absence and took his wife at gunpoint. The robbers snatched gold ornaments and mobile telephone set and escaped.
In another incident some thieves broke into the house of Altaf Hussain in Munawar Colony in the jurisdiction of Saddar Berooni police station and made off with Rs 10,000 in cash and gold jewellry.
Abid Ali’s motorbike (RIX-3383) was stolen from Saddar while Ahmed Soleman Abbas’s Khyber car (IDK-1856) was lifted from RA bazaar.
