RAWALPINDI: A hospital employee was gunned down during one of three robberies committed in the New Town police circle on Monday.

Police said Maqsood Butt, a civilian employee of the CMH, was going to his office when armed men tried to rob him near Chandni Chowk.

When Maqsood put up resistance, the robbers shot him dead and escaped.

The police said they were investigating the matter to determine the real circumstances in which the man was killed.

Basharat Mehmood advocate, a resident of Gulistan Colony, said he was in a court when three young men entered his house and held his wife and other family members at gunpoint. He said the robbers took away Rs50,000 in addition to dollars and Saudi riyals and two mobile phones.

Mohammad Naeem, a salesman of a frozen food supply company, was on duty at Chandni Chowk when he was intercepted by three robbers. The armed men snatched Rs200,000 from him and escaped.

Soon after the three robberies in the limit of the New Town police circle, the police in the city were alerted but the robbers could not be caught.
