HYDERABAD, Nov 15: The Sindh food department has reportedly ordered the transportation of a large quantity of wheat from the godowns of Bolhari to Karachi to meet requirements of the metropolis.
Sources in the food department told this correspondent on Thursday that 300,000 bags of wheat were being shifted from Bolhari to Karachi.
When contacted by telephone, Hyderabad Chakki Owners Association president Nawab Khan said only 600,000 bags of wheat were available at the Bolhari godowns out of which 300,000 bags were being transported to Karachi.
He said the remaining bags were not enough to meet the requirements of the Hyderabad district for December as its November quota was 300,000 bags of wheat.
He alleged the wheat godowns of Hyderabad had been sealed as they were lying empty, except for having 6,000 bags of rotten wheat brought from Khairpur.
The association chief said there would be no wheat for the Hyderabad division for December if the dwindling wheat stock in Bolhari and Hyderabad was not replenished.
The deputy director, food department, was not available in his office for comments as he had reportedly left for Karachi to attend a meeting.
However, the in-charge, Bolhari wheat godowns, confirmed that 300,000 bags of wheat were being transported to Karachi.
VC: Isra University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Asadullah Qazi has advised the students to learn how to interact with others.
He told a group of visiting students here on Friday that to achieve higher goals in life, one could combine one’s talent and abilities with those of others.
Dr Qazi said that at universities, students needed to be provided with an environment that was conducive to their intellectual development.
He also spoke about the academic standards of Isra and explained how the university was different from other institutions.
Responding to a question, he provided detailed information about students’ evaluation system as well as the methods of teaching practised at Isra.
He said that the purpose of examination should be to test students’ knowledge about the subject and not their ignorance.
He elaborated about student counselling and advisory systems practised at the university.
The VC said that talent, like muscle, grew with exercise likewise self-confidence grew through encouragement, training and experience.
