HARIPUR, Nov 15: The local government system would collapse once the president puts off his military uniform, former provincial minister and PML-N leader Yousaf Ayub Khan, said here on Saturday.

Talking to newsmen, he termed the power devolution plan a failed experiment as, according to him, the new system had proved ineffective in resolving the people’s problems. Besides, he added, it had also rendered the parliamentarians powerless.

Mr Khan said the local government system introduced by Gen Pervez Musharraf was a replica of Gen Ayub Khan’s basic democracy and Gen Zia’s Shura systems, which had evaporated with their exponents.

The history would repeat itself once Musharraf quitted the office of the COAS, he claimed.
