KARACHI, Nov 15: A number of students aspiring admission to Bachelor programmes at the University of Karachi were dismayed over non-availability of admission forms and prospectus at the designated bank branches on Saturday.

A couple of days back, the KU vice-chancellor had extended the dates for submission of admission forms, at the designated bank branches, from Nov 15 to Nov 18, keeping in view the reduced working hours of banks during the holy month of Ramazan.

However, students claimed that the grant of extension by the VC proved futile as at least half of the designated bank branches did not have prospectus and forms on Saturday. “We tried a couple of branches, but to no avail,” added one of the students, urging the vice-chancellor to further extend the date on the ground that admission committee and banks failed to provide the forms and as such students would have to visit the banks again on Monday, while Tuesday was the last date.

Sources privy to the admission committee said the forms printed by the varsity had exhausted on Friday and arrangements were being made for getting 2,000 more forms printed. A total of 10,000 forms and prospectus were provided to the banks in two phases, the sources added.

Forms were not available with UBL branches at Bahadurabad, Hyderi, Nazimabad, Binori Town and two branches on the University Road. In all 12 UBL branches in different parts of the city have been assigned with sale and collection of admission forms, it was learnt.

When contacted, the director of admission committee at KU, Dr Mudassir Uddin, said that after becoming aware of the crisis, the varsity had again ordered printing of 2,000 sets of forms and prospectus, which would be available at the bank branches on Monday, provided things went in right direction and no other technical problem emerged.
