KARACHI, Nov 15: The NED University of Engineering and Technology on Saturday released the provisional merit list of students for admissions to Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Computer and Information Technology programmes.

According to deputy chairman of the admission committee, Mahmood Khan Pathan, medical tests and interviews of candidates, included in the list, will commence on Dec 1. Complete information about board-wise merit numbers in regard to interviews would be available on the varsity website (www.neduet.pk).

He said that initial lists describing the merit positions of 3,514 candidates were put on the website and university notice board on Nov 10, inviting claims or objections from the candidates, adding that the only objection filed was found valid.

He further said that first waiting list of candidates would be released on Dec 19. He said that merit list for 585 seats of Bachelor of Engineering (regular), allocated for Karachi board students, started with 971 marks and closed on 851.

It was learnt that as many as 1,010 seats were offered for admissions to three programmes at 11 departments under regular and self finance schemes. The provisional lists were displayed at the varsity gate and website as well on Saturday.

The closing marks for admissions of Karachi board students at different departments were as follows: Civil Engineering-852 marks, Electronic-914, Electrical-889, Telecommunication-924, Computer system-889, Mechanical-867, Textile-882, Industrial Manufacturing-860, Urban Engineering-851, Architecture-870, Computer and Information Technology-751.

According to sources privy to the admission process, a maximum 1,230 candidates preferred admissions to the Electronics department and then admissions to Telecommunication, Computer system and Electrical departments were sought.

In all 6,500 students had taken the entry tests, out of which 3,514 applied for admissions. A total of 2,543 applications, including 1,975 that of Karachi board, were received for admissions to Bachelor of Engineering programme, while 279, majority of them female, applied for B Arch, while 175 applied for Bachelor of Computer and Information Technology.

A total of 501 applications were received against 123 self-finance seats, including 83 for Karachi board students. Over 80 applications were received against 29 seats reserved for overseas Pakistani candidates and A levellers (self-finance and regular), the source added.
