Women urged to emulate Fatima Jinnah

LAHORE, Nov 14: The two-day Madar-i-Millat women’s conference organized by the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Foundation and the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust opened here on Friday.

Governor’s wife Begum Rubina Maqbool who was the chief guest urged women to emulate Mohtarama Fatima Jinnah to make their lives an example for others.

MNA Begum Mahnaz Rafi said a number of scholars had published books on the life and achievements of Fatima Jinnah which should be included the course of studies in educational institutions throughout the country.

MNA Begum Bushra Rahman said girls schools and colleges had held various functions in their institutions to celebrate the Madar-i-Millat year.

Justice Nasira Javid Iqbal (retired) said at the second session that Fatima Jinnah was an example for the women of Pakistan who should emulate her.

She said despite her old age Mohtarama Fatima Jinnah had decided to contest presidential election against Ayub Khan and braved the arduous train journeys in both wings of Pakistan. She addressed large public meetings impressing upon the people to rise against military dictatorship and restore democracy in the country. Other speakers included Dr Rafiq Ahmad, Mrs A. R. Chaudhry, Dr Mussarat Abid and Sajida Hanif Abbasi.
