KARACHI, Nov 13: American ambassador Nancy Powell on Thursday expressed the hope that the case of the ARD president Javed Hashmi and others in judicial system will be handled in a fair and transparent manner.

She spelt this out while addressing the Karachi Council on Foreign Relations, Economic Affairs and Law on “Pak American relations” and hoped that it would be done with due regard for fundamental rights, including those of speedy public trial, access to counsel and family visitations.

She emphasized that Pakistan’s commitment to the further advancement of democracy and human rights was central to its efforts to build a stable, positive future for its people.

She said that the United States wanted to see strong Pakistani democratic institutions and practices, including a National Assembly that plays a vigorous and positive role in governance and an independent judiciary that promotes the rule of law.
