BADIN, Nov 13: The Islami Relief, a UK-based NGO, has opened its office here for providing relief and rehabilitation to the rain and flood victims of the district.

The project coordinator, Shafiqur Rehman, told this correspondent on Thursday that the NGO decided to establish its camp office here arose after its representatives undertook an exhaustive tour of the devastated areas of the district.

He said that an amount of Rs20 million was being spent on the relief package which would be provided in the form of fodder, food, non-food items, livestock vaccination, etc., however, no cash amount would be distributed among the victims.

Mr Rehman said that initially, 100kg bags of wheat seed, 10kg of fodder and 2kg of vegetable seed would be given to each of over 7,000 families and at least 100 water sources would be restored and 10,500 animals vaccinated.

He said the Islami Relief had also made arrangements to impart training to the people at community level on the topics of “Health-Hygiene Awareness” and “Disaster Preparedness” in at least 100 villages.

He said the entire task was to be completed in eight months for which local people had been employed, including four women workers, and added that those villages which had already been provided sufficient relief were not selected.
