KARACHI, Nov 13: A passing motorist died when police opened fire at two armed suspects in Sir Syed Town on Thursday.

Police said two armed suspects on a motorcycle were snatching cash from a distribution vehicle of a private company when two policemen reached the spot on a motorcycle.

SHO Sir Syed Town, Zulqarnain, told Dawn that as a result of the crossfire a cyclist Abdul Hakim suffered a bullet injury in his hand. The suspects however managed to escape despite.

The SHO claimed that after half an hour he received information that a body was lying in a car in the limits of the Shahrae Noor Jehan police station at a distance of about half a kilometre from the spot where the encounter took place.

The SHO said the victim had suffered a bullet in the head. He was identified as Ahsan Ali, 28, an area sales manager in a pharmaceutical company.

However, eyewitnesses said the victim was passing through the same road in his vehicle (AAE-195) where the firing took place. They said Ahsan was hit by a bullet when police were firing toward the road where the suspects were trying to flee.

After the bullet hit him, his car continued to move on for some distance, till it came to a halt, the witnesses said. The body of Ahsan Ali was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for the postmortem examination.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead by unidentified persons in his house in Khokhrapar on Thursday.

Police said that unknown persons barged into the house of Zahid Ali, father of four children in Saudi Colony. They shot him in the chest and fled without taking any valuables.

Police said that victim was a clerk in a government school in the area. They suspect some personal enmity as a possible motive behind the killing. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for the postmortem examination.

A young man was shot dead by unidentified persons near the Wazir Mansion railway station early Thursday morning.

Police said that Taj Bar, 30, a labourer was shot in the head. He was taken to the Civil Hospital where he died during treatment.

The victim hailed from Swat. His body was handed over to his relative following the postmortem examination.

STABBED TO DEATH: A young woman was stabbed to death by unidentified persons in her house in Korangi on Wednesday night.

Police said that unknown persons brutally stabbed Nabeela, 17, and fled from the house in Zia Colony.

Police said the victim lived alone in the house after the death of her parents. The young girl died before she could be shifted to the hospital.

Police said that victim’s brother in law, Shar Ali, lodged an FIR against the unknown killers.

A young man was killed in his house in the limits of the Rizvia police station on Thursday.

Police said the body of Tahir Husain was found hanging in his house and his wife informed police about the body.

Police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police have detained the victim’s wife, Gul Naz, and her sister, and are questioning them for their possible involvement in the killing.

The couple had married seven years ago and had no children.
