KARACHI, Nov 13: Muttahida Majlise Amal’s central leader, Prof Ghafoor Ahmad, has said that in its one-year rule the Jamali government had done nothing in the Senate and the National Assembly for progress of the country and elimination of poverty, instead it had allowed a 100 per cent increase in the salaries of the members of the parliament.
Speaking at an Iftar party hosted by the Rifah Aam Society in Shah Faisal Colony on Thursday Prof Ghafoor said that the government had failed to resolve problems of the people, who were fed up with rampant loot and plunder, particularly money extortion in the name of Zakat and Fitra was a proof of administration’s failure.
He said the US always had been found backing unpopular generals, imposing them on many countries in the name of democracy and respect for human rights.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-i-Islami on Thursday staged a protest demonstration at Regal Chowk against extortion and forced contribution in the name of Zakat and Fitra.
Speaking to the participants, MMA deputy parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly Nasrullah Shajee, condemning those involved in the practice said that in the very beginning of Ramazan, a particular political group had started collecting extortion money.
