LAHORE: India released nine Pakistani prisoners on Tuesday in a reciprocal gesture, days after Pakistan freed 87 Indian fishermen.

According to the Edhi Foundation, the Pakistani prisoners were handed over to Punjab Ranger officials at Wagah border.

After their release, Edhi officials took the prisoners to their Gulberg Edhi Home.

The prisoners were identified as Abu Saeed, Karimullah, Azizur Rehman, Nazir Ahmed, Yousaf, Papu Jaan, Wasu Bahar, Amin Masood and Abbas Ali.

The released fishermen were caught some 17 months back and all of them hail from Karachi.

One of the fishermen, Nazir Ahmed, said they were kept at Jam Nagar Jail in Indian state of Gujarat.
