KARACHI, Nov 11: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has called for gearing up the pace of work on the Askari Park project, being laid out at the site of old Sabzimandi.

He directed the district coordination officer to remove all bottlenecks in the way of the project and remain in contact with the officials of 5-Engineering Corps so that the park could be completed on time.

He was presiding over a meeting held in the Governor’s House at which the progress made in respect of the Askari Park was reviewed.

The meeting also reviewed the construction of pedestrian bridges, the FTC flyover and the traffic jams and other civic issues.

The meeting was attended by Advisers Aftab Shaikh, Waseem Akhtar, Nazim Naimatullah Khan, acting Chief Secretary Ghulam Sarwar Khehro, Principal Secretary Akhtar Zamin, Additional Chief Secretary on Local Government Mohammed Saleem Khan, officials of 5-Engineering Corps and Inspector- General Syed Kamal Shah.

The DCO briefed the meeting on the removal of encroachments from the Askari park project land.

The governor directed his principal secretary to hold a weekly meeting for regular review of the progress made regarding the park.

The meeting was told that work on the park project had been commenced, a tubewell installed there and work was in progress in relation to a boundary wall, levelling and designing.

The EDO Works, Shoaib Siddiqi, apprised the governor about construction of pedestrian bridges as directed by him last week. He said repair of dilapidated bridges had started.

The governor said that bridges posing threat to human lives should be closed immediately and their repair be completed at the earliest possible.— APP
