Six stadiums to have free Wi-Fi during World T20 in India

ISLAMABAD: Cricket fans will enjoy free Wi-Fi services at six cricket stadiums during the upcoming T20 World Cup matches in India.
The free Wi-Fi service will be available at stadiums in Bangalore, Dharmashala, Kolkata, Mohali, New Delhi and Mumbai.
The service provider has fixed a certain range to allow only spectators inside these stadiums to have access.
There are more than 600 Wi-Fi access points scattered across each stadium to ensure proper coverage in every corner of the arena, while Eden Gardens in Kolkata has 1101 access points, which is understandable given the sheer size of the stadium and the seating capacity of 68,000, Cricket Country reported.
“We supported connectivity for about 30,000 people in Mumbai. At any given point, 20,000 people were continuously connected through Wi-Fi. It was delivering speed of 15-35 megabit per second,” the spokesperson for the internet providers was quoted as saying.
At Feroz Shah Kotla, 650 access points has been installed to support 40,000 connected devices during T20 matches, starting March 23.
The Wi-Fi service will support 68,000 connections at Eden Garden, 41,000 at Feroz Shah Kotla, 33,000 at Wankhede, 26,000 at Mohali, 35,000 at Chinnaswamy Stadium and 23,000 at Dharamshala Stadium.
The ICC World T20 2016 will begin with a qualifying round comprising eight teams, the top two of which will qualify for the main round. This qualifying round begins March 8 with Zimbabwe playing Hong Kong and will go on till March 13 when Bangladesh will play Oman.
The eight teams in this round are Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Ireland, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Scotland, Oman, and Zimbabwe.

India a cricket loving country . It is just a show of " digital India campaign" to the guest fifteen nation. Good government job. Hope free WiFi facility will be provided in IPL , HSL , PKL , etc no game weather football, hockey or kabbadi left untouched with full entertaining matches. Good job India .

As a matter of fact most of the Indian cities (and their stadiums) already have free wifi systems, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Indore, Hyderabad and the list goes on. Mohali and Dharamshala stadium were the only one's without wifi.

Good idea. The last time I went to a cricket match, I got super bored.
It is obviously a boon for the spectators, but not so bright for the game itself. Cricket is a boring sport for many people and having distractions will make it even less interesting.

First of all, there is not threat to Pakistani team. Some of the people have threatened only to dig the pitch , which is a remote possibility, given the fact that this is world cup. Second, your NSA Zanjua has informed his counterpart in India about few terrorist who have crossed over to India. These terrorist would be the only one who could try attacking the world cup. In nutshell, if there is an attack, one does not need to look far where they may have come from.

Infact Geo has been providing free Internet by wifi in All over India on main Bus stations and on metro rail for 30 minutes after that on Payment mode. @Zak you can expect minimum 4mbps with restriction to download content and cmaking calls. Digital India program is already covering tens of railway station, bus station with free Wi-Fi for initial 30 min. Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Bangalore and many more cities have public places like river front with free Wi-Fi.

@Zak Passwords are generally sent to you once you log on and feed in the required details. It will be the same as it there in most of the big hotels in the world. Some of the big cities in India also provide free Wi-fi in certain important commercial areas.

@Fact checker spectators in south africa are allowed to booze and lay on the grass outside the cricket field. And they get to do that for the whole day during the test matches. And that attracts the people to the cricket grounds to watch the test matches. Similarly australia and new Zealand also allow the spectators to have all the leisure during test n one day matches

This is not new. Free WiFi facilities are provided during IPL matches at many of these stadiums. I have personally used in many stadiums.

@Zak You have to register for each active session. It will have a fixed limit like 60 ,minutes for each session so no password needed. Once you register you are on. Speed is not that great. Just enough to upload a pic or send a whatz app message

Forget metro, railway stations, and public places. Karnataka government inter city and inter state Volvo and Scania buses have free WiFi and tv inside the bus.
It's not a big deal here in Bangalore. MG road, brigade road, commercial street have free WiFi with fairly good speed

Yes I agree India is developing. However please dont show off to Pakistan or try to show it down. Please note if India and Pakistan can come together we will be a big bloc of power and resources in the area. We can live like a family who has been partitioned however still in good terms. We are all so alike in our food, clothing etc why cant we work together. Why waste time trying to bring the other person down. Okay, so we got partitioned and separated by lines on the ground. However lets become 2 big monsters to the outsider instead of one. Politics will take its own course. As long as we dont resort to killing each other. Think about it guys. strength is always in unity or like we all say in a "Mutti". Become a fist and we can fight. Become a finger, we get striked!
