PARIS, Dec 28: French Defence Minister Alain Richard will travel to Islamabad next week to meet President Pervez Musharraf and then visit French troops in the region, the defence ministry said on Friday.

Richard will first visit France’s Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea on Tuesday, New Year’s Day, and then travel to Islamabad on Wednesday (Jan 2).

He will also visit the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, to meet Tajikistan’s President Imomali Rakhmonov before moving on to Mazar-i-Sharif, in northern Afghanistan, where French troops have been involved in securing the airport.—Reuters
