Remounts ‘W’ qualify for final

LAHORE, Dec 28:Remounts Whites qualified for final of the Marry Max polo tournament, defeating Borjan 6 1/2-3) at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Friday.

Final will be held on Sunday.

Three more matches of two chukkers, each were also played.

Remounts Whites had advantage of half-a-goal on handicap. It scored six goals during play as against three put in by Borjan.

Irfan Ali Hyder opened scoring for Borjan with a field goal. Mir Shoaib Ahmad scored first field goal for Remounts Whites to give his side 1 1/2-1 lead before the chukker ended.

Remounts Whites increased lead by scoring both goals of second chukker. Ahmad Khan converted a 30 yards penalty-hit while Sufi Muhammad Haris scored a field goal. Remounts Whites led 3 1/2-1 at end of the second chukker.

Both goals of third chukker were also scored by Remounts Whites. Mir Shoaib Ahmad scored his second goal and Manzoor Shah his first goal to increase the Remounts Whites’ lead to 5 1/2-1.

Irfan scored his and Borjan’s second goal with a long, lofted shot at start of fourth chukker. Haris scored his second and Remounts Whites’ sixth goal on a 30 yards penalty-hit.

Saquib Mawaz Khan scored Borjan’s third goal converting a 30 yards penalty-hit but before that Remounts Whites had taken unassailable lead.

Remounts Whites:Sufi Muhammad Amir (1), Mir Shoaib Ahmad (0), Ahmad Khan (3), Manzoor Shah (1).

Borjan: Agha Murtaza Ali (0), Irfan Ali  Hyder (2), Saquib Mawaz Khan (3), Umer Sadik (1).

Umpires: Malik Atif Yar Tiwana & Lt.-Col. Isfandyar Pataudi.

Remounts  Maroons  qualified  for  subsidiary  final of the tournament by beating Olympia by 4—1/2 in a two-chukker match and Black Berets by five goals to three in another such match.

Olympia had advantage of half-a-goal on handicap and could not score any goal during play. For Remounts Maroons, Sufi Muhammad struck twice and Sufi Muhammad Amir and Khurshid scored one goal, each.

Black Berets had advantage of one goal on handicap and  scored two  goals  during play through Amanat and Saquib  Khakwani.  For Remounts Maroons, Samiullah scored two and Sufi Muhammad Amir and Khurshid one goal, each.

Another two-chukker match between Black Berets and Olympia ended in a 2-2 draw. Black Berets had advantage of one goal on handicap and scored two goals through Amanat and Shahzad Aziz. For Olympia, Raja Sattar, Aurangzeb Monnoo and Amanat scored one goal, each.
