HYDERABAD, Nov 9: Sindh Works and Services Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Raheem has said millions of rupees have been wasted on construction works due to wrong planning.

He was speaking at a one-day seminar on “Quality Control in Construction of Buildings and Roads”, organized by his department at the Sindh Museum Auditorium here on Sunday.

The minister said those who had raised slogans of Jeay Sindh in universities were holding government offices but had forgotten their promises. He said hallow slogans could not save Sindh and practical work was need for the development and prosperity of the province.

He observed that corruption never paid in the long run. He said he had seen secretaries who had enjoyed luxuries while in service but were complaining about excesses of the their departments after retirement.

The secretary for works and services, Ashfaq Ahmad Memon, chief engineer, Sindh highways, Abdul Jabbar Khan, chief engineer, buildings, Nizar Ali Khwaja, Professor Abdul Rasheed Memon, Assistant Professor Shabbir Ali, EDO, works, Habibur Rehman, and others also spoke at the seminar.

Later, talking to journalists, the minister said he did not see any threat to the Sindh government.

However, he said, many members of the Sindh Assembly were aspirants for the post of chief minister.

He said he was still in the Sindh Democratic Alliance and had not decided to join the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid).
