KARACHI, Nov 9: The city government’s office of the district officer health has provided the record of over 1,150 officials of the city government’s hospitals, mostly belonging to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sindh, on its request.

The NAB has sought a complete record for scrutiny of all those employees of the city government’s health department who were appointed in the defunct KMC during 1997 and onwards.

The NAB has sought all these information of such employees, including complete personal files, service books and first salary bills drawn under Section 19 of NAB Ordinance.

Complete information regarding the defunct KMC’s former director (Administration and Octroi), Rehan Khan, and others has also been sought by the NAB for conducting an inquiry against him in connection with the appointments made since 1997.

The list, provided to the NAB, includes the names of almost all category of employees such as resident medical officers, house officers, staff nurses, O.T., lab, x-ray, ECG, CT Scan technicians, sanitary inspectors, stenographers, security guards, cashiers, clerks, ward boys, aayas, naib qasids, sweepers, etc.

The purpose of conducting such an inquiry by the NAB, according to the sources in city government, is to check whether the defunct KMC’s rules of appointment, such as the condition of possessing domicile and permanent residence certificate of Karachi and other prerequisites, were followed in letter and spirit while undertaking the recruitment process during 1997 and onwards.
