DUBAI: In a surprising move, Shoaib Malik on Friday announced to step down as Karachi Kings' captain during a press conference in Dubai.

Kings were quick to name Ravi Bopara to lead the side for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“I was struggling to focus on my own game. I’m hoping to put up a good show tomorrow and for the rest of the tournament,” said Malik.

Malik’s resignation has come at a time when Kings are gearing up to play their Qualifying Final against Islamabad United on February 20.

Kings have had a poor campaign throughout the league by winning just two out of their eight matches, and only got promoted to the next round on a better head-to-head record against Lahore Qalandars.

Qalandars were the only team that couldn’t make it to the playoffs.
