CHARSADDA: The Bacha Khan University (BKU), Charsadda and the Frontier Constabulary (FC) have signed an agreement under which 32 FC personnel and 10 policemen would be deployed for security of the varsity.

BKU spokesperson Saeed Khan Khalil told reporters here on Wednesday that the district police had provided the university with 10 police guards, including two lady constables, on permanent basis.

He said that services of a retired army colonel had also been acquired to train the security guards of the university.

A terrorist attack on the varsity on Jan 20 had killed 18 students and faculty members.

The spokesperson said three women security guards would also be hired in addition to 58 guards already deployed at the varsity. He said that 19 watchtowers had been constructed across the campus manned by police and FC personnel.

Also on Wednesday, secretary higher education department Farah Hamid visited the university campus and met the students and vice-chancellor Dr Fazl Rahim Marwat. She expressed satisfaction with the security measures and also assured that all the issues faced by the university would be resolved. She urged the students to continue education without any fear.
