KARACHI: The standing committee of the Sindh Assembly on minorities’ affairs has decided to set up an 11-member body to review the bill draft for protection of rights of minorities, which was prepared by the minorities’ rights commission.

The committee met here on Wednesday at the committee room of the Sindh Assembly building.

The meeting was presided over by its chairman Poonjomal Bheel. The meeting gave the right to nominate the chairman of the 11-member body to the Sindh government in which 33 per cent representation would be given to women.

The meeting was also attended by Provincial Minister Gayan Chand, Mohesh Mollani, Nand Kumar and other members of the committee and representative of NGOs.

Talking to media, Mr Poonjomal Bheel said the Hindu Marriage Registration Bill, 2016 passed by the Sindh Assembly did not have any harsh condition to facilitate the registration.

Nand Kumar said that the issue of forced marriages would also be taken up for consideration in the next meeting.
