Rs11.3m for Haripur borstal earmarked

HARIPUR, Nov 8: A borstal will soon be constructed with in the Haripur central prison to save juvenile delinquents from the company of adult criminals.

The participants of a workshop, organized by Dost Foundation on Thursday, were further informed that Rs11.3 million had already been earmarked for the purpose.

Lawyers, journalists and social workers attended the workshop. They were told that in compliance with the Chief Executive Order 2000 and the juvenile justice system, borstals were being established in different jails of the country.

More than 100 juvenile prisoners, both under-trial and convicted, have been incarcerated in the Haripur jail.

ROBBED: Robbers deprived a steel merchant and his client of cash and valuables on Thursday.

Sources said three armed men barged into a steel shop on the Railway Road and deprived proprietor Ramzan and a customer of a total Rs60,000 and a cell phone.

The robbers then sped away in a Suzuki car.—Correspondent
