Jihadi bodies under pressure

SWABI, Dec 28: All the Jihadi organizations are under tremendous government pressure to wind up their activities, the leaders of Jihadi groups told Dawn here on Friday.

Requesting anonymity, they said the leaders of various Jihadi groups had already gone underground because they feared that a massive crackdown against them was on the cards.

The new scenario, they said, which had surfaced after Dec 13, forced the government to take such steps and to reduce the activities of the Jihadi groups. Pressure had been increased manifold after the attack on Indian parliament by some unknown people, they added.

They claimed the attack on Indian parliament was a state-managed drama, hitched by the BJP government to cripple the Kashmiri freedom struggle and get sympathies of international coalition against terrorism. But, they stressed, it were the Indians who had been indulging in terrorist activities.

They said a few days back a wide-ranging meeting of the Jihadi organizations was held in Islamabad in which they had discussed the prevailing situation and the continued government pressure. The agencies, they pointed out had already removed their signboards and curtailed their activities on the directive of the federal government and the Jihadi groups were forced to close their offices.

They predicted that in the next few days the activities of the Jihadi groups would be further curtailed as the their key leaders were no longer in a position to maintain their previous momentum.

The Jihadi leaders said after the arresting of Jaish-i-Mohammad chief and others, rounding up of more Jihadi leaders was imminent, and claimed that they would be arrested in the next couple of days.
