Dacoit killed in ‘encounter’

TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 7: A dacoit was killed in an encounter with police near Kamalia on Thursday night.

Three dacoits had snatched a motorcycle from a villager near Chak 725-GB. The victim informed the Kamalia police, and a police party chased the culprits to Chak 720-GB. The dacoits hid themselves in sugar cane fields. Police parties were called from Kamalia, Arrouti, Pirmahal and Rajana. The police traded fire with the dacoits. The siege of fields continued up to Sehr on Friday. When police searched the fields, one of the dacoits was found dead. His two accomplices had run away under cover of darkness.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Majeed alias Mahia Chadhar of Chak 742-GB.

RAMAZAN BAZAAR: The Ramazan Bazaar on Askari Grounds was closed down by the Tehsil Municipal Administration on Friday as it had failed to attract consumers. Another Ramazan Bazaar would now be established in Sadar.
