MIANWALI, Nov 7: The Chakrala police claimed on Friday to have arrested a passenger, who was carrying three kilograms of heroin to Karachi.

Reports said Chakrala police station SHO Zafar Iqbal stopped a Karachi-bound bus (0495-PA-Karachi), as it entered the district. The team started frisking the passengers when one of them, who was later identified as Alam Zeb of Peshawar, tried to flee, but the police caught him and recovered three kilograms of heroin from him.

The police have registered a case against him.

PRISONER BEATEN UP: The jail officials at Ahata, Block 3, on Thursday night allegedly beat up a prisoner after which he fell unconscious.

It is alleged that chief wardens, Sarfraz and Ramzan, called in Saeedullah Khan, a resident of Bannu, after prayers, tied him on a stand and lashed at him until he fell unconscious.

All the prisoners of the block claimed to have witnessed the incident after which the victim remained unconscious for three hours.

When contacted on Friday, the jail authorities denied beating up any of the captives. However, they claimed that Saeedullah was overpowered when he tried to escape.

SHO SUSPENDED: District Police Officer Dr Shakeel Ahmad Mirza on Friday suspended from service the Saddar police station SHO for abusing authority.

SHO Malik Manzoor allegedly insulted a villager, Tariq Khan, during the course of investigation in a murder case and also registered a case against him on the charge of threatening to interrupt proceedings.

Musakhel DSP Muhammad Iqbal Malik has been appointed to inquire into the case.
