SHIKARPUR, Nov 7: The family of a woman observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Friday to protest against her and her baby’s death caused by an unwanted Caesarean.

Rahim Dino Soomro, the husband of the dead woman, Mehrunnisa, told journalists that Dr Naila Soomro and Dr Majid Soomro of Marvi Medical Centre had advised a Caesarean of the six-month pregnant woman, saying that the baby had died in the womb.

However, he said, after the Caesarean the baby turned out to be alive but later died with the mother.

Mr Rahim Dino appealed to the governor and chief minister

of Sindh to take action against those doctors who performed the unnecessary operation.

Five children of the woman, Abida, Farman Ali, Basharat Ali, Hamida and Fahmida, also took part in the hunger strike.
