MIRPURKHAS, Nov 7: The transporters were fleecing the commuters of Mirpurkhas district by overcharging them against the price list fixed by the government for various routes.

A survey conducted by this correspondent revealed that many public transport vehicles were operating without fitness certificates and route permits.

The transporters were charging fares in excess on the Khipro, Umerkot, Hyderabad, Sanghar and Mithi routes despite the commuters having made several complaints to the regional transport authority.

Reliable sources said that when some passengers objected on being overcharged, they were harassed and beaten up by the henchmen of the transporters.

profiteers fined: A fine of Rs5,450 was imposed on 20 shopkeepers and pushcart owners for overcharging on general commodities, fruits and meat.
