GUJRAT, Nov 6: The government will seek help of NAB in the recovery of dues of claimants and people affected in foreign exchange scam, assured Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool.

Talking to newsmen after visiting several federal government offices in Gujrat on Thursday, the governor said his government had already repaid money plundered by the Taj and cooperative companies to their genuine claimants.

Earlier, the governor visited several offices where relevant officials briefed him on the functioning of the departments.

During his visit to a Ufone office, he said its service would be extended to more districts in the province.

PML-Q MNA Rehman Naseer informed the governor that some PTCL subscribers in his constituency had been receiving bills, though their telephones had been disconnected. The governor ordered an immediate probe to ascertain facts in this regard.

He also listened to the complaints of subscribers and asked the officials concerned to redress their grievances.

At Gujranwala Electric Power Company’s office, the MNA told him that 35 villages of Sarai Alamgir were still without electricity.

Superintendent engineer Munawar Husain informed the governor that there was remarkable decrease in line losses in the district. The government, he said, had given a grant of Rs50 million in the last fiscal year for electrification of 25 villages. Power had been supplied to seven villages while the remaining areas would be electrified soon.

Gas consumers complained to the governor about the supply of low pressure. At this, Sui gas official Ijaz Ahmad said low pressure was due to some technical fault the proposals for whose plugging had been sent to the higher-ups.

On the issue of gas theft by some consumers, he said, their Gujranwala office had constituted several mobile teams to detect such cases and bring the culprits to book.

Responding to a governor’s query, he said, work on provision of gas to Kunjah was near completion.

Later, the governor visited the Gujrat Nadra office where a large number of computerized national identity card seekers complained him about slow processing.

The governor was briefed on the targets the authority had been achieving after which he directed them to facilitate the NIC seekers.

District Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Husain, Naib Nazim Mian Arshad Hayat and DCO Agha Nadeem accompanied the governor.

GUJRANWALA: The governor also visited an agriculture, Nadra and SNGPL offices at Wazirabad.

He also inspected various roads and directed that their construction should be completed in time to provide relief to people.

He also visited the Agriculture Development Bank, whose regional manager informed him that the bank had set a target of extending loans up to Rs153 million, of which Rs100 million had been given.

He also said loan recovery from the farmers was quite good, as the bank had so far recovered Rs103.427 million.
