Fertilizers’ prices hit growers

MIRPURKHAS, Nov 5: Growers are facing hardships due to the increase in the prices of fertilizers in Mirpurkhas district.

Fertilizers are used during the sowing of wheat and other crops. The recent rise in the prices of fertilizers has hampered wheat sowing.

Nitro phosphate is being sold at Rs550 per bag instead of Rs530, while DAP at Rs850 per bag instead of Rs625.

DCO: The district coordination officer, Mirpurkhas, who is also the chairman of the Mashal School committee, has not taken any action against the wrongful appointment of a lady teacher in place of the one selected on merit, it was learnt here on Tuesday.

Sources told this correspondent that the Mashal School was part of the social welfare department and was being run by a committee headed by the DCO and added that recruitment of teachers and other school staff was always carried out by advertizing in national newspapers.

Furthermore, the executive district officer (community development), Siddiq Memon, had set up a committee for the recruitment of a teacher for which several candidates applied and were subsequently interviewed. It was learnt that the EDO had appointed his niece, Sumera Memon, although she was not recommended by the committee.

Sources further said that several months back, the EDO had appointed another niece of his, Sanam, daughter of Ahmed Ali Memon, in the school without due process. Moreover, he did not obtain permission from the DCO for her confirmation.

SUICIDE: A woman, Jheni, wife of Deworaj, committed suicide on Tuesday by hanging herself in Wali Mohammad Bhurgari village, Kot Ghulam Mohammad Taluka.
