MULTAN: Bahauddin Zakariya University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Tahir Amin said late on Thursday that every department of the university had been politicised and the teachers were doing politics to get administrative posts while the people on administrative posts were willing to teach.

Addressing Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry members, he said the standard of education was going down in the university and no research was being done.

He said public representatives and officials of some influential institutions would pressurise the university administration for transfers, postings and appointments.

He said due to political interference, there were several pressure groups and a large number of cases of BZU employees were in courts.

The VC also critcised the media for negative reporting and blackmailing university officials for favours.

He said the university was short of 62 per cent of teachers because the meetings of the selection board and syndicate were not being held regularly.

“The situation of Lahore and Vehari campuses is not different but now we have made a new team that will work transparently in each and every matter,” he said.

He said that he had written to USAID to arrange an agreement with some US universities for preparation of curriculum and exchange of students and teachers.

He urged alumni, industrialists and philanthropists of the area to playing their role in funds generation.

“Similarly, universities have a vice chancellor fund to help the needy students but we do not have such fund as well. The Lahore University of Management Sciences is successful only because a strong group of industrialists is supporting it,” he said.

He said that the university will invite chamber members and industrialists for lectures in the university.

He said the university was going to introduce a transparent system for the utilisation of funds while a dean forum had already been made to improve the education standard.

He said that steps are being taken to ensure the 80 percent of class attendance and parents would also be informed the about the attendance of the students. He said vacant posts of teachers in the Seraiki department would be filled very soon.

There is potential for research and international linkages with the universities of India, China, Taiwan and Korea, he said, adding there should be a medical college of the university.
