LHC to consider lawyers’ plea

Published November 3, 2003

LAHORE, Nov 2: The Lahore High Court shall consider the request of lawyers, previously in occupation of any part of its Fane Road property, for providing suitable land for the construction of their offices as its licencees.

The land would be provided to the lawyers only on the prescribed terms and conditions, the LHC registrar said on Sunday.

He directed the lawyers, desirous of availing the opportunity, to submit their written requests within 15 days along with particulars and proof of payment of any rent and the area which remained under their occupation.

The information was required for determining the factual position regarding the physical possession of the individual lawyers and the area which remained under their possession.

The legal status of property, owned by the LHC, remained undisputed and it could decline the request of any lawyer without assigning any reason.

The offer was being made in good faith keeping in view the long-standing tradition of keeping cordial relations with the Bar.

The offer, which was not an undertaking, would not be available for use against the LHC in any proceedings as it would not confer any right whatsoever on any person. All the rights of the court with regard to the property would remain uncompromised, the LHC registrar added.
