KARACHI: Model Ayyan Ali approached the Sindh High Court Tuesday, seeking the removal of her name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
In the constitutional petition filed through her counsel Advocate Sardar Latif Khosa, she said the order to put her name on the ECL is illegal since authorities have returned her passport.
The supermodel said she has to travel abroad for medical treatment and professional assignments and since she has been released on bail, her name should be struck off the ECL.

Ayyan maintained that the authorities' decision to disallow her from travelling abroad is a violation of her fundamental rights guaranteed under Article 18 of the Constitution.
She further said she was not being allowed to travel abroad even though she attends all court proceedings and her counsel has fulfilled court formalities.
Earlier this month, Ayyan was returned her passport on a conditional basis after she submitted surety bonds of Rs3 million.
A week later, customs authorities moved the Islamabad High Court against the decision of the special court for customs to return Ayyan's passport.
In the petition, they expressed the apprehension that the supermodel may abscond if she was allowed to travel abroad.
The supermodel approached the Lahore High Court last month, seeking acquittal in the currency smuggling case against her.
Ayyan was apprehended while attempting to travel out of Pakistan with half a million US dollars. The amount was seized by customs when she was checking in for a flight to Dubai at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) on March 14 this year.
A special customs court formally charged her with attempted currency smuggling last month, almost nine months after she was arrested.
The model pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The respectable custom officer who caught Ayaan red handed, was shot dead. So there is no proof left against her. Now she should be set free to enjoy her life. She is a young professional top model and she must pursue her bright career.

If PMLN govt is serious about tackling corruption then they must take away Ayyan Ali's passport and keep her name on the ECL. Not only this, they should get to the bottom who the half million dollars REALLY belonged to. We all know Ayyan was just a carrier.
Will PMLN do it? I hope they would BUT I doubt it. They may have their own carriers exposed if they go after Ayyan.
The rot is so deep that Pakistan needs to be cleansed with wire brush to get it out.

Sindh has a development budget of 200Billion which in the last 7 years comes to to upwards of $10Billion. That money spent on public projects would show. However from the decrepit state of Urban and rural Sindh it is clear that this money was looted systematically by all and sundry over this time, and we are witness to one such case.

Ayyan's money laundering case of half a million dollars cash is being followed around the world, as it is leading to corrupt Pakistani politicians. She had made several dozen trips to Dubai in one year, presumably smuggling several million dollars? Whose money was it? Was income tax paid on it? Why was it not declared? If it was legitimate money it could have been legally sent through a bank? This was serious violation of Pakistani and International laws against money laundering which is often involved in terrorism. So it was really surprising when she was given her passport back, now it would be shocking if her name is removed from ECL? Our government should not make mockery of stolen wealth and money laundering laws, but punish her for her crime. That would be justice. The whole world is watching.

Authorities be careful and do not drop this case. She should not go free regardless who is behind her. Now credibility issue for the government how influential and common people are being treated. Everyone knows what she has done. let people and public feel justice is there equally administrated. Don't we all want people Pakistan progress? Thanks.

It is not her who was laundering the money. She was just an instrument and unfortunately, she trusted those thugs who got her into trouble. But off course she is not innocent either, she is part of that ring. Who knows what circumstances got her into that evil ring. Oh my, such a corrupt society.
