Published October 31, 2003

ISLAMABAD, Oct 30: The students, teachers and the non- teaching staff of the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in an open meeting on Thursday expressed their profound sorrow at the tragic death of a second-semester History student on the campus.

The participants of the meeting after a lively discussion demanded a comprehensive overhaul of the security staff to ensure a peaceful environment on the campus.

The students also spoke of absence of any mechanism whereby their grievances could be addressed. They suggested putting in place a mechanism to hear their voice and solve their conflicts through mediation and dialogue.

The meeting was addressed by Dr A H Nayyar, Dr SK Hasnain from Physics department and Dr M Ishaq from the Academic Staff Association (ASA).

The speakers gave the background of the tragic events which took place on October 10 to 13 and held the ethnic councils responsible for the mess on the campus.
