KARACHI, Oct 30: Dr Pervez Amirali Hoodbhoy, Professor of Physics at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, has been awarded the 2003 UNESCO’s Kalinga prize for the popularization of science.

The award was created by UNESCO in 1952 and endowed by the Kalinga Foundation Trust of India.

The Kalinga prize is considered the world’s most prestigious prize in science and technology. Louise de Broglie won the first Kalinga prize in 1952.

Other recipients were renowned scientists like George Gamow, Bertrand Russell, Margaret Mead, Philip Abelson, David Attenborough and Sir Peter Medawar, among others.—APP
