LAHORE, Oct 29: PML-Q former president Mian Azhar doubts the ‘sick leadership’ can reinvigorate the ruling party.

In a press statement here on Wednesday, he said the capability and integrity of the leadership stood exposed before Gen Musharraf and it was for this reason that the general was being defended on the issue of his uniform and bureaucracy was being flattered.

Mian Azhar said people had been left to face starvation or humiliation at police pickets. On the other hand, vehicles were being imported for legislators, he added. He believed that the situation would not last long.

Mian Azhar, who is a former governor of the Punjab, was of the view that the PML alone could guarantee national security, but nothing could be expected of the present leadership.

He said it was for this reason that efforts for the unification of various PML factions had failed to bring in desired results.

If an in-house change did not take place, replacement of leadership would be brought about through struggle outside parliament. The ball was now in the court of legislators, Mian Azhar said, adding that any harm to the system would be unfortunate.

He was of the view that all decisions should be taken by parliament and those preferring government servants to the elected representatives should learn a lesson from the fate of the previous rulers, a reference to the Sharifs exiled to Saudi Arabia about three years ago.

He felt concerned for the party workers who he said were being wronged.
